Dubai is preparing to unveil a 24-karat gold walkway in its Gold District before the end of 2026. The announcement comes as a giant pair of handcrafted gold earrings weighing 16.514 kilograms earns two Guinness World Records.
Dubai is preparing to add another extraordinary attraction to its reputation as the City of Gold, with plans to open a walkway made with 24-karat gold before the end of this year.
The proposed attraction will be located in Dubai Gold District, a commercial destination in Deira known for its gold trading and jewellery businesses.
Rashid Al Harmoudi, senior director of the commercial sector at Dubai Gold District, said the walkway is expected to open within the next two months. Organisers describe it as the first of its kind and the longest gold walkway in the world.
The project aims to attract more tourists while strengthening Dubai’s position as an international destination for gold trading and jewellery shopping.
However, officials have not yet disclosed the walkway’s exact length, construction cost or technical details about how the gold will be incorporated into the walking surface.
Dubai’s Gold District Prepares for a New Tourist Attraction
The planned walkway is part of a wider effort to expand Dubai Gold District as a destination for visitors, jewellery buyers and international gold traders.
Located in Deira, the district brings together businesses dealing in gold, jewellery, perfumes, beauty products and luxury goods.
The area has also seen growth in commercial activity. According to figures shared by district officials, the number of wholesale gold offices opening in the area has increased by 20% since the beginning of 2026, while new shops specialising in gold, jewellery, precious stones and luxury watches have risen by 15%.
Plans are also underway to develop a major gold and jewellery exhibition complex intended to become one of the Middle East’s largest trade venues.
Officials expect more companies to relocate to the district over the coming year as additional office and retail space becomes available.
Dubai’s Giant Gold Earrings Set Two Guinness World Records
The gold walkway announcement comes shortly after another remarkable development in Dubai’s jewellery industry.
Joyalukkas Jewellery has earned two Guinness World Records for a handcrafted pair of traditional Indian gold earrings weighing a combined 16.514 kilograms.
Named Mayura Sahasra, meaning “A Thousand Peacocks,” the giant earrings are made from 22-karat gold and feature intricate peacock-inspired designs.
The pair was recognised for the heaviest pair of gold earrings and the largest pair of earrings in the world.
According to Guinness World Records, the heaviest-pair record was achieved on October 12, 2026, in Dubai.
55 Artisans Spent Thousands of Hours Making the Earrings
The extraordinary jewellery pieces were created by skilled artisans who spent several months working on the intricate designs.
A team of 55 artisans contributed a total of 5,840 hours to complete the pair, which draws inspiration from the traditional Indian jhumka, a bell-shaped earring associated with South Asian jewellery and bridal traditions.
The earrings measure approximately 1.215 metres in length and 0.682 metres in diameter, making them far larger than conventional jewellery.
The pair was unveiled on October 24 at the Jewel of Joy by Joyalukkas showroom in Dubai Gold District.
Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, attended the unveiling. Representatives of Guinness World Records presented certificates recognising the two achievements to Joyalukkas Group chairman Joy Alukkas and company representatives.
Why the Record-Breaking Earrings Will Not Be Sold
Unlike conventional luxury jewellery, the giant earrings are not intended for sale.
Joyalukkas has said the pieces will be preserved as works of art and displayed permanently at its Jewel of Joy showroom in Dubai Gold District.
The display gives residents and tourists an opportunity to see the record-breaking creation and its detailed craftsmanship in person.
The achievement also highlights Dubai’s continuing efforts to promote its gold and jewellery industry to an international audience.
Dubai Continues to Expand Its Gold and Tourism Industry
The proposed gold walkway and the record-breaking earrings reflect the variety of attractions being developed around Dubai’s long-standing association with gold.
From traditional jewellery craftsmanship to large-scale commercial projects, the emirate continues to combine shopping, tourism and luxury experiences.
If completed as announced, the walkway will offer visitors another reason to explore Dubai Gold District. More details about its design, length and construction are expected to emerge as the opening approaches.
For now, the planned walkway remains a forthcoming attraction, while the giant Mayura Sahasra earrings have already secured their place in the Guinness World Records.
